JOB PURPOSE

Reporting into the Vice President of Energy Efficiency, the Energy Efficiency Engineer is tasked with quantifying the technical performance of the fleet, focusing on hotel and service consumers, and for delivering technical analysis and advice to support the improvement in energy efficiency. The Energy Efficiency Engineer is responsible for assessing technological solutions, analyzing high-frequency operational data, and managing energy efficiency related projects. You will also advise on required changes to the operation of our ships to foster energy efficiency and fuel consumption reduction, working closely with shore-based stakeholders and ship staff.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Manages projects related to energy efficiency and emission reduction on board the fleet, with a particular focus on the hotel and service functions (e.g. power generation efficiency, electrical load management including HVAC/galleys/lighting/auxiliary machinery, heat recovery, and thermal load management)

• Supports the company in choosing the best technological solutions related to energy efficiency and decarbonization to be adopted on new ships, retrofitted on the fleet in service, or installed in the terminals

• Maintains and further develops the company’s decision support systems and performance monitoring tools, provides input for the development and maintenance of the fleet’s energy baselines/digital twins, build meaningful dashboards and analytics providing insight on hotel and auxiliary load performance

• Advises on necessary changes in operation of existing ships to enhance energy efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and associated emissions based on insights obtained from analytical tools and/or onboard audits

• Participates in R&D projects on energy efficiency and decarbonization

• Assists on several projects at once by virtue of prioritizing effectively and complete them within the required timeframe through effective time management

• Supports all departments to achieve common targets as per the company’s strategy

• Occasionally travel on board or ashore for trainings, audits or for technical projects.


QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience)

• A degree in Engineering (Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering or a related discipline) is essential

• At least 3 years of relevant working experience, preferably within the cruise sector (e.g. in cruise ship systems design, plan approval or operation)

• Experience with cruise ship systems such as electric power generation, HVAC and heat recovery system is essential

• Analytical and mathematical modelling skills, experience in developing and using analytical tools to support the technical decision making

• Experience in budget management and Project Management for technical project delivery

• Strong ability to work in a team environment

• High attention to detail across both qualitive and quantitative research and analysis

• Self-starter and autonomous in operational decision making according to Company guidelines and procedures

• Proficient in documentation and technical manual preparation

• Excellent English and communication skills combined with the ability to build a case and present data effectively.
