JOB DESCRIPTION

The Ordinary Seaman (OS) is an entry-level position on a ship responsible for performing a variety of tasks to assist the ship's crew and ensure the smooth operation of the vessel. The role involves working on deck, assisting with the maintenance of the ship, and supporting the navigation and safety operations of the vessel. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the deck, including sweeping, scrubbing, and removing debris.
  • Help with minor repairs and maintenance tasks as directed by senior crew members.
  • Stand watch on deck as directed, including lookout duties, monitoring for hazards, and reporting any issues to the officer on watch.
  • Assist with the maintenance and inspection of safety equipment, including lifeboats, life jackets, and firefighting gear.
  • Assist with anchoring operations, including handling and securing anchor chains and lines.

REQUIREMENTS

  • GRADE 12
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
