The 1st Engineer is responsible for the safety systems and deck machinery onboard. They perform maintenance and repairs within machinery spaces as instructed by the Staff Chief Engineer, ensuring the Engine Room remains operational and safe. The 1st Engineer is on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies or other non-standard operating conditions. The 1st Engineer is exempt from regular watch duties, except under unusual circumstances and as authorized by the Chief Engineer. Employees may be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor, management, or the Chief Engineer. All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the Company's Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards. Responsibilities:
Qualifications and Education
Language Requirements Working knowledge of computers, Internet access, and proficiency in software such as Excel, Word, or related programs. Physical Requirements All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency, including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills, including handling lifeboats, with full use of arms, legs, and sensory functions. Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently to interpret procedures, give/receive instructions, and communicate effectively with guests, supervisors, and co-workers. Maintain current STCW certification. 2nd Engineer’s License – STCW regulations III/2 Superior customer service, team building, and conflict resolution skills. Previous management experience leading a team of 4-10 personnel. Strong communication, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills. Ability to interpret ship's plans and prints, draw engineering plans, and prepare job orders. Excellent working knowledge of all safety equipment. Conduct workstation spot checks to ensure items are stored properly, minimizing deterioration and waste. Maintain cost control through proper use, handling, and record-keeping of supplies, reports, and equipment. Provide equipment training to officers and ratings in the Engine Department as scheduled by the Staff Chief Engineer. Collaborate with the Technical Support Officer to review spare parts of inventory, consumables, and future maintenance plans, preparing requisitions three months in advance. Ensure that all work orders are accurately updated in AMOS. Serve as a Damage Control Officer during emergency situations. Responsible for planning and executing safety equipment as detailed in AMOS. | |
